The Northcliffe is a Grade II listed building on Tudor Street in the City of London and the former headquarters and print works of the Daily Mail newspaper. In Opera Group provided their EPD certified cement based terrazzo for the reception and lounge floors as well as custom made furniture.
The large reception lobby and lounge have been designed with a 1920s influence and dramatic, geometric designs, this is complemented by In Opera’s stylish terrazzo, with an inlay pattern of circles. Whilst the newly relocated main entrance, has a striking geometric patterned terrazzo floor, which makes a statement for the arrival experience.
Although situated near Fleet Street, the architects – JRA, have re-positioned the building to accommodate prospective tenants from the insurance, legal, fin-tech, social media and technology sectors. Originally built in the 1920s and redeveloped in 2001, JRA’s proposals have preserved the original Daily Mail facades and extended the office space on the upper three floors. The space has been retrofitted and the atrium reconfigured to provide amenity space including break out areas and a café.
186,700 sq ft of office space has been retrofitted with a focus on sustainability and the design concept, as elsewhere, makes reference to The Northcliffe’s post-industrial heritage. Three new landscaped roof terraces have been created on the upper levels to provide extensive external landscaped amenity space for future office tenants.
The building has achieved BREEAM Outstanding, which only 1% of refurbished buildings have attained, and is certified EPC B. The project exceeds RIBA’s 2030 embodied energy emissions targets.
