YY London is located in the heart of Canary Wharf, one of the original Canary Wharf buildings, which has undergone a striking transformation by architects –Â Buckley Gray Yeoman for Quadrant and Oaktree Capital. This transformation reduced the overall energy demand of the building by 62%, whilst avoiding demolition is estimated to have saved 10,260 tonne CO2e.
YY London features a new high performance façade – with a distinctive Y shaped design that also lends the project its name. In Opera, SB138 Ghiaccio cement terrazzo, was specified for the steps for the entrance to the building, this cement terrazzo has a full EPD certification.
The entrance leads to an impressive, main reception space, with a beautiful, striking floor which is a bespoke, handmade In Opera terrazzo, CP884. The entrance area has been extended to the south and a new feature staircase connects the ground to the upper ground levels in the triple – height space. A digital screen wall wraps around the reception relaying information or abstract artwork. Large, fluid mirrored panels on the ceiling create a sense of an even larger space and reflects the remarkable terrazzo floor and movement of visitors.
The building is all-electric, with rooftop photovoltaic panels and an air source heat pump that provides heating with waste heat redirected. New CO2-controlled ventilation, energy monitoring and cloud-based analytics enable systems to be optimised in operation to minimise energy consumption and carbon emissions. The completed building is pre-certified BREEAM Outstanding; WELL platinum enabled and has platinum Wired and SMART Score ratings.
YY London is a workplace of tomorrow, sustainable and stunning.
“The role of the office is under review: we need our offices to be extraordinary. YY London will be an exceptional workspace that staff will want to come to work in, with a focus on wellbeing and community, designed to match occupiers’ evolving needs in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are creating something fresh and exciting for everyone living in, working in and visiting Canary Wharf.”
