The Acre is in the heart of Covent Garden, London. Originally designed by Richard Seiffert as a bank in the late 1980’s, Gensler has transformed this insular, Brutalist building into a contemporary, sustainable workplace which connects The Acre’s past with its future.

Key areas have been reshaped and reorientated to integrate the building with its surroundings, inviting people to explore the building in more engaging ways. Staggered terraces across eight floors encourage visitors to connect with the space in a much more dynamic manner.

In Opera terrazzo was specified for the lobby floors and cove skirting, an area which is known as ‘The Heart’ of the building.  The Heart is a seven-storey glazed central atrium designed for use by tenants and the public, it doubles as a thermal envelope to support The Acre’s energy efficiency.

A palette of three shades – Grigio Chiaro, Grigio Medio, Grigio Scuro were selected for the floor in The Heart, these form a wave-like pattern flowing through the building. A skilled installation by Mine to Yours.

The building has a BREEAM outstanding target. It is also on track to achieve a 4.5 NABERS UK Star rating, alongside WELL Platinum and Fitwel 3 Star aspirations — the highest levels on the leading international frameworks for health and well-being in buildings.
