The floor at BMW Welt in Munich was designed by Urquiola and produced by Aectual, a brand specializing in design-tech flooring.
The company employs robotic technology to 3D-print a bioplastic frame, which stands several centimeters high.
Beyond traditional geometric patterns, this 3D-printed framework allows for free-form shapes that appear hand-drawn—such as the swirling designs created by Urquiola.
This frame was transported to the installation site, where it was filled with a mixture of marble fragments and a bio-based binder. The resulting terrazzo was then set and polished to create the finished floor.
